The Lonaconing Silk Mill is the last intact silk mill in the United States. It is located in western Maryland and the mill's owner allows groups to visit as a way to generate income in an effort to preserve the history of the mill. The Mill began operations in 1907 and operated into the late 1950's before it shut down. At it's peak, about 300 people worked here processing silk imported from China. I was invited by a friend to join a group of photographers on a cold February weekend photographing at the mill.
