Hawk Mountain is about ten minutes away from my hometown of Hamburg, PA and is a world class sanctuary for hawks, eagles, and other birds of prey. On autumn weekends if the weather conditions are right, you can see hundreds of hawks and other raptors circling and riding the wind thermals at the intersection of the mountain ridges. But there is more to Hawk Mountain than birds of prey - it is an amazing landscape of beauty under different light and weather conditions. I never cease to find something new each time I visit.

Ricketts Glen State Park is my favorite place in Pennsylvania.  With more than thirty waterfalls and many cascades along a Y-shaped hike through a glen of towering trees - it's hard to beat.

The King Frost Parade is a Halloween parade held for more than fifty years in my hometown of Hamburg, PA.  This folio presents images of the parade as the town gets ready, as the audience and performers arrive, and finally the parade itself.

Knoebels is an old family owned and family run amusement park in Pennsylvania.  It is not abandoned - it is still in operation today.  But it couldn't be further, in distance or atmosphere, from the big company parks of today.  This folio presents the park during the off season.  And while the rides look old, there is definitely pride in the park and the work they do each off season to get it ready for the families in the summer.

I wandered around Green Lane during two snowfalls and they couldn’t have been more different. I raced out one Saturday morning just as the snow started falling on the first snow of the year. The gentle dusting of white on the trees is fleeting - it may only last for the first thirty minutes before the snow accumulates in greater amounts. It is during this first thirty minutes that you see a unique landscape that is gently covered in fine white powder. The second winter visit to Green Lane was a month or two later after the snow had fallen overnight. I got there before sunrise - before the snow could be disturbed by any wind. And I watched the colors of the landscape go from a cold blue to a warm yellow as the sun rose.

I discovered the NJ Pinelands earlier this year (2018). Ok, they were discovered hundreds of years ago and long before my time. But I found out about them and started exploring them earlier this year. I was immediately hooked - what a stunning area of wilderness right within the most populated area of our country. The Pinelands have been set aside as a National Preserve and they are worth protecting. It is a combination of pines, hardwood trees, sand, marsh, rivers, and wetlands that are incredible to see.
